History of the Cooperative
Talleres Del Gran Valle

The history of the Cooperative Talleres Del Gran Valle (CTGV) began with the arrival of Denis Laporta as volunteer. After some visits and conversations on the spot the idea of making hand made product out of the loofah plant arose. Loofah is a plant of the genre curcubits with origen in India and resident in tropical climate zones. In the local climate she can be cultivated without problems.

Since that the work with the loofah has developed, put in concrete forms and strengthened and can serve as an example model for other regions of the country.

The from Denis Laporta realised progress focussed on the village and the region with the aim to create purposeful productive and common projects which use the regional available materials and rests and appreciate the nature. With this concept began the production and

sale still keeping eye on that the production always is sustainable and alternative, complied with the environment and at the same time saving the income of the families. Our products are selled on Fairtrade market.

All these impacted the improving of the livingquality of many families in the zone.

The Fairtrade is an alternative to the conventional trade which tries to approach the final consumer and the producer and to avoid as many middleman as possible which brings many economic advantages for the little consumers and the producer because the goods-financial exchange is more direct.

Together with the residents the CTGV began to form groups which winded up projects for an alternative, economic and and social upswing for reaching worthy living conditions for the families and at the same time conservating the unique environment of the Intag valley.

The products of the different manufactories from the Cooperative Talleres Del Gran Valle have focussed on the receipt of nature. Within this opinion the projects like the loofah manufactory, the basketry, the cultivation of peanuts and fish, the collection of banana seeds and other natural seeds and the construction of an storeroom for organic grains have founded himself.

These projects stress the endogenous and sustainable development which prioritize the receipt of the nature and the identity of the inhabitants Manduriacos.

For the comercialisation the CTGV looks for markets which share these ideals, appreciate and also aspire them like the Fairtrade market does it.

The cooperative CTGV gets financial support from national and international foundations and dedicated organizations which protect the biodiversity and nature in the zone Manduriacos; economic aid means funds which are non-refundable.

Momentarily the economic support is minimal and the money which receives the organization is used solely for the strengthening and formation of regional entrepreneurial structures, giving assistence to the support of new alternatives and the aid and enlive of organised groups, the support of farmer families by formation of regional administrations and responsibilities.
